Engage with the history of music and minorities research in Vienna and take a glimpse behind the scenes of ethnomusicological fieldwork in this hybrid exhibition!  The digital part of this exhibition traces the development of music and minorities research at the Department of Folk Music Research and Ethnomusicology (IVE). It offers histories, stories and ideas from conversations with 13 individuals involved in these changes, rather than claiming to be the definitive history. The digital exhibition is complemented by a physical exhibition of recording devices from the IVE's archive, representing the history of ethnomusicological fieldwork technology. Scholars from the IVE and the Music and Minorities Research Center (MMRC) are available to share stories about the work of ethnomusicologists with the visitors, and to offer hands-on demonstrations of some of the recording devices.

The exhibition presents diverse materials from the department's archive, the Austrian Phonogrammarchiv, and researchers' private archives. These materials represent a small fraction of the rich archival holdings but demonstrate the breadth available for future researchers.
