Every call, location ping, or social media interaction we generate leaves a digital footprint-and these footprints can reveal more than just personal habits. Mobile phone metadata, for example, can help researchers track evacuation patterns during wildfires, showing who is most vulnerable, and shedding light on underlying socioeconomic inequalities. Meanwhile, social media data provides a window into political life, helping us map how opinions spread, where polarization is strongest, and how communities engage-or clash-online. Join Elisa Omodei, Associate Professor at the Department of Network and Data Science to explore how digital traces can shed light on social and political challenges.
