This study investigates how observing others’ emotional displays can help us understand how certain behaviors are evaluated in unfamiliar cultural contexts. Observed emotional displays may provide privileged access to the detection of social norms and ways of doing things, enabling one to acquire knowledge that allows one to become a member of a social group without needing direct communication and interaction with others.
